Karen Sadler for 2011 Raleigh Jaycees President

"Light Tomorrow With Today"

Fellow Jaycees,

Upon much thought and reflection about myself, love of our chapter and future of the Raleigh Jaycees it is with great pride that I announce my candidacy for the 2011 President of the Raleigh Jaycees.

The Raleigh Jaycees has been a beacon in my life from the day that I joined.  It is within this organization that I have not only had the opportunity to grow professionally and personally, but I have met truly amazing people who have positively influenced my life. It is my sincere hope that I can share those opportunities with current and future members of our chapter.

My theme for the year is “Light Tomorrow with Today”.  We will continue to build off of past and current success in pursuing the goal of focusing on our members and giving them the opportunities to develop into our future leaders.  By focusing on programming and leadership development we can ensure that the Raleigh Jaycees will continue to be a beacon in the Raleigh Community tomorrow and beyond.

I joined the Raleigh Jaycees in September, 2006 with the hope of meeting people with similar interests and life goals.  I quickly fell in love with the Haunted House and Turkey Shoot, which led to years of involvement on those project committees.  However, my involvement did not stop with the fall projects.  I served as a Community Service/Ways & Means director in 2007 under President Paul Hoover.  In this role I was able to work directly with project chairs from the inception of their projects to their final wrap up.  The following year I stepped up to take the role of Individual Development Vice President under President Carter Pettibone.   My team ran more than 30 projects that year and I learned so much about myself, our members and our chapter.  It was during that year that I began considering stepping up into the role of President. However, I decided that I really wanted another year of experience as a Vice President before taking on our top leadership position.  This year I am serving on President Melissa Taylor’s board as the 2010 Business Development Vice President, which is a culmination of Business and Ways and Means.  Being a Vice President in our chapter has given me invaluable opportunities to learn about how our chapter operates. This is knowledge and understanding that I had not received through other support positions on the board.    As a Vice President of the Raleigh Jaycees I have been directly involved in drafting and revising our chapter plan, creating and managing our chapter budget, project chair and director collaboration, as well as team management.  As Business Development Vice President my area raises and oversees the funds used for all chapter operating expenses.

One of the key reasons that I know I am the best candidate for 2011 Raleigh Jaycees President is because I know that without our members we would not be able to accomplish the amazing things that we are able to do as the Raleigh Jaycees! I believe in recognizing our members for the contributions that they make and constantly reminding them how much they are appreciated.  We are a membership based organization and I will make it my mission to encourage, support and recognize EVERY member.

Every good leader is supported by an incredible team.  I encourage everyone who wants to step up to lead, who wants to grow, who wants to try something new, to join Team 2011. I would be honored to serve with you. If you elect me as your 2011 President I will work with you and for all of our members to develop our future leaders.

Please come out on Tuesday, October 5th and elect me, Karen Sadler, as your 2011 Raleigh Jaycees President.
